Welcome to the first installment of the “Chiefs Corner”. Every month I will give you an update on what is going on in Fire District #43 (Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety). The big news going on at the start of the month is all of the wild fires in and around the state of Washington. Currently (Sept 5th ) there are over 75 major wildfires on the west coast consuming a massive amount of resources. The other big news is that of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey are devastating the southeast part of the United States. Fire Departments from around King County have resources deployed to both the wildfires and the hurricanes as part of mobilized task forces.

From the Maple Valley Fire Department I would like to wish the city of Maple Valley happy 20th birthday. I was fortunate enough to be able to join in the celebration at the end of August.

As most of you are aware I had to make the tough decision to close Maple Valley Fire Station 83 (216 th near the PlaMor Tavern) due to budget cuts. This was a difficult decision, but one that had to be made. As many of you were made aware in my many public meetings leading up to the August ballot measure, the Maple Valley Fire Department has some serious budget issues. Thanks to all of you who have asked questions as to why the station closed, and if and when it could be reopened again, and how the department got to this point financially in the first place. If you would like to get a hold of me I have been more than happy to discuss why we are in the situation that we are in, and what the future looks like here. I can always be reached by email at chief@maplevalleyfire.org .

We will always work tirelessly to bring you the highest level of service that we can. All of us here at the Maple Valley Fire Department take a tremendous amount of pride in serving the community here, and we thank you for your continued support. Have a great September getting the kids back to school!
